14 Years Old

bakari

Bakari, a 14-year-old boy from eastern D R Congo, had been struck by grief twice when his father and step-father passed away from treatable illnesses.

His mother, Jemimah, traveled 30km to reach a food parcel distribution that Mamy Show Foundation carried out, so she could feed her starving children. As Jemimah’s husbands were the primary breadwinners in the family, when they both passed away, Jemimah and her children were left with nothing to support them. Bakari, his mother, his 12-year-old sister, and his half-brother, who are eight and six, all live in a one-bedroomed house shared with other relatives in MASINA.

Bakari was nine years old when Mamy Show Foundation heard about his story; we decided to help immediately to alleviate some of his family’s stress. Thanks to the sponsorship money, Bakari is healthy; he can now attend school and is in grade six. According to his teachers, Bakari does his homework and participates in class sessions actively.

Thanks to Mamy Show Foundation’s sponsorship, all of this has changed…

Bakari enjoys playing football with his friends and likes to read science and English language books in his spare time.

When we spoke to his mother, Jemimah, she said she was thankful for the sponsorship money: “I am grateful for the kind support, it helped me pay Bakari’s school fees and other costs.” Bakari said the sponsorship money is excellent as it helps him go to school and allows him to learn; we look forward to watching Bakari progress in his future studies!
